Light upon form can be as a glacial stream, a swollen torrent cascading from rock to rock throwing itself in all directions and dazzling us as it finds its way. Other times it is more a meandering brook, sleepy and calm, muted and soft as it moves off into the distance.

Trained from a line of artists painting in the Russian Impressionist tradition, it is the light and the beautiful color relations it produces that pulls me to continue working and learning. The color when light is strong and warm is much different than when cool and faded, yet each creates feeling and interest that is as different as a lazy stream from an energetic waterfall.

Whether paintng in oil, acrylic, or gouache, or drawing with pencil or markers, whether plein air or in the studio, or whether a portrait, landscape or still life, it is always about that Magnificent Light...
