Roslyn, WA. Famous for underground coal mines, dozens of different ethnic graveyards and where Northern Exposure was filmed. I painted this in the Fall of 2009 and initially liked it but felt it was lacking something so dumped it into the scrap heap.
I ran across it the other day and thought there was potential, so....
This is the technique I used:
I covered the painting with plastic wrap, smoothed it out as much as I could and painted on it. The plastic kept me from actually touching the painting and making it mucky but I could see exactly what effect the new strokes would have...and wipe off what didn't work.
Peeling it off and placing it on a white surface (another canvas) all I had to do was make similar marks on the actual painting and I got just the corrections I wanted.
Now, while my wife is of the opinion that the uncorrected painting is better, I like the corrections. The changes were subtle. Actually, as you can see by the plastic, there really weren't very many needed to bring it out of the dustbin.....where it had been facing certain destruction.
Maybe this is an idea you could use. Try drafting plastic for the same purpose.
